Taking care of our tress along the Glen

Trees are quite a big thing (literally!) along Glen Goyle.

Ed Dolphin of the Arboretum has put together a wonderful map of the trees in Glen Goyle – and it is understood that further labelling is imminent…

The FOGG team were present at the Arboretum’s celebration of trees a couple of years ago, at the celebration in 2023 and as part of the bigger VGS stall celebrating trees with the Arboretum last year.

There does seem to be something special about these giants of the natural world, which provide the Glen with so much of its character. Particularly the magical trees of Asherton House Garden, now around the lawn of the Glen Goyle park, which add that something special.

The volunteers of the Friends of Glen Goyle are grateful for this collaboration – with the Sidmouth Arboretum and the Bassett family of Asherton House.

They are also very pleased to be working with the district council’s Streetscene tree team  who have recently paid the Glen a visit.

The team looked at helping to put up bird and owl boxes across the Glen – as well as looking at doing some more heavy-duty clearing and some planting, plus production onsite of lots of useful chippings.

And all of this is looking as though we are making good progress along the Glen!

Thank you again to all our collaborators! Especially as we all try to take good care of our trees!
