WORKING PARTY REPORT AND PHOTOS: 5TH OCTOBER 2023

This week’s report and photo comes from FOGG working party member Katie Frost:

Just three volunteers today. The areas of the raised borders by the stream which haven’t yet been planted were dug over in readiness for new plants.

The area of the photograph from the 1960s was then the next area of focus. The seedling harlequin glorybowers are growing quite well here. There’s a clear path down to the stream where dogs run down, so we started digging over the area leaving the pathway untouched. The edges of this path were marked with small branches (see photo).

After conversations with [EDDC Horticultural Officer] Paul and [South West in Bloom chair] Jon Wheatley last week, a plan was decided upon:

– to dig over the area

– pot up a few more of the glorybowers (to sell?)

– take out more of the bamboo (Jon’s suggestion)

– research azaleas and rhododendrons that would thrive in this area
