FLOODING

On July 12th 2021 Sidmouth had a lot of rain.

It was so heavy that Wool brook which runs through Glen Goyle was able to carve a path through the shingle on the beach so that it emptied directly into the sea.

Despite the large amount of rain the brook didn’t rise very high and there was no evidence of serious damage in the aftermath. The images below show the changed beach and the flattened grasses in Glen Goyle.

The beach was previously a continuous shingle bank retaining a pool of water which gently drained through the pebbles.
