Planting bulbs along the Glen – anticipating English bluebells in the spring

The planting of spring bulbs started last week – with a big thanks to the District Council for supplying them and a big thanks to the FOGG working party for putting them in!

FOGG volunteers and EDDC horticultural officer Paul Fealey planted 1000 bulbs in the raised beds along the brook today.

English daffodils, English bluebells, crocuses and snowdrops.

“Hopefully it will look a picture in the Spring,” says FOGG working party member John Hopkins.

And this is what they should look like:

“So many of the real English bluebells are being lost, and replaced by shorter, more upright cultivars. Long live the English bluebell, which hangs over and has long deep blue flowers.”
