Last November, it was clearly a good time of year to go planting along the Glen, as during yesterday’s session by the FOGG volunteer working party, the council’s Horticultural Officer Paul Fealey “called in and said he was pleased with all the flowers on show from our earlier bulb planting and how good the Goyle was looking”. [See the weekly report 2nd April 2026 – Friends of Glen Goyle]
Paul was particularly pleased with the dog’s tooth violets which were coming into flower. And FOGG volunteer John Hopkins has put together a lovely montage of the dog’s tooth violet, bluebells, and muscari, plus other flowers appearing in the lawn area from their earlier bulb planting:

Thank you John!
The Erythronium dens-canis|dog’s tooth violet is a lovely thing – and originally comes from Japan as the name suggests – with some more lovely things about the Dog-tooth violet on this Japanese website.
It appears a little later than some of the violets – including the Common Dog violet, recorded along the Glen last January, when looking at violets along the Glen…
Clearly, then, Glen Goyle is looking good!
