Glen Goyle has all sorts of charming residents, including members of the damselfly family.
And it seems that it is the ideal place for these lovely insects.
As the British Dragonfly Society says about the Beautiful Demoiselle, it is “mainly found along streams and rivers, particularly those with sand or gravel bottoms”.
Local naturalist and friend of FOGG, Ed Dolphin, has been down the Glen of late and has taken some wonderful photos of both the male and female.
As he reports: “Beautiful (that’s the name as well as the description) Demoiselles flirting with each other in Glen Goyle. Brown wings and duller body colour is a female.“

And as the Wildlife Trusts page on the Beautiful demoiselle says, “Beautiful demoiselle’s are, well, beautiful! Often confused for a dragonfly, these giants of the damselfly world are hard to miss with their metallic blue and green colours.”
