Installing new benches along the Glen

There have been a few gaps along the Glen where once upon a time there were benches:

The Friends of Glen Goyle have looked into what might be ideal to fit in these gaps, in terms of design and size, working with members and with the council:

The District Council has now put in two spanking new benches, made from UK recycled plastic waste – and yet has a smart, traditional look for these Victorian gardens:

The first installed bench, going up the brook.

The second bench, by the Fernery.

A big thank you to the council for the installation!

This is the Wirksworth Seat:

A modern twist on a traditional bench. The Wirksworth Seat has clean lines, looks stunning in any location and comes in a great choice of colours… The Wirksworth Seat, being made from UK recycled plastic waste, is a sustainable alternative to timber benches. This stylish outdoor bench works in any location. It looks good in traditional brown or black.

This is from a Derbyshire firm – and Wirksworth is a pretty little town:

Discover Wirksworth – where the Peak District begins

As noted by a FOGG member:

It was very run down in the late 70s/early 80s what with the quarries, and the nearby Derwent Valley mills [WHS just to the east Visit – Derwent Valley Mills] shutting, but was reinvented by a group of locals and now is full ‘trendy’ people (film makers, folk singers, small start-ups, etc). The church is lovely and has some nice brasses. It is a wonderful example of what can be done by a determined local group [Wirksworth – Discover Derbyshire and the Peak District]
