In February this year a dozen bat boxes were erected on trees in Glen Goyle. This was carried out by the tree team at EDDC after guidance from Devon Wildlife Trust and Ecology and Environmental Services company Halpin regarding locations and types of boxes. It is the intention of EDDC Countryside team to train an officer as a licensed bat officer to monitor their use.
In the meantime, local naturalist Ed Dolphin recently undertook a recording survey of bat calls in the Glen Goyle. The results were submitted to BTO Acoustic Pipeline for analysis. They were able to ascertain the following degrees of certainty for various bat species.
Common Pipistelle 99% certain
Soprano Pipistrelle 99% certain
Daubenton’s 93% certain
Leinsler’s 92% certain
Nathusius Pipistrelle 90% certain
