This time of the year belongs to the Camellia, giving us vibrant colours in the late winter gloom.

Ed Dolphin of the Arboretum and Biodiversity Group has had two pieces in the Sidmouth Herald over the years. In this article from 2020, he reminded us that Camellias ‘were luxury status symbols’ and now they’re as common as a cup of tea – together with some very fine photographs of local species.
And in early last year, he looked at Camellias as bright spots in the winter gloom – with a lovely picture of a flowering example in the grounds of Kennaway House.
But there are certainly some splendid specimens along Glen Goyle too!
