The Friends of Glen Goyle is well-established by now – having started as a germ of an idea and very small steps. One of those who was there at the start of the project is John McGregor, who has seen the project develop into what it is today. And John has penned a piece – and provided photography – which should be appearing in a local journal some time soon..
Here it is in full, together with his illustrations.
A hidden gem – Glen Goyle
For a couple of years now a group of volunteers have met on a Thursday morning.
With the help of EDDC Horticultural Officer, Paul Fealey and the Street Scene team a restoration programme is progressing well. Invasive species have been attended to and new plantings introduced.

Access is either via Manor Road or towards the top of Glen Road.
New benches are being installed and invitations are extended to sponsor them as memorials to loved ones.

A Fernery is being established which is intended to replicate the long lost one of Peter Orlando Hutchinson.
Devon Wildlife Trust have visited and recommended sites for owl and bat boxes, hedgehog runs, and insect and bug hotels. Sponsorship is sought for these items.

There are paths to be resurfaced and a new public entrance to be opened in Glen Road, giving access to wheelchairs from Four Ways Care Home and others.
Do visit the area and enjoy a stroll in the Glen and perhaps for a while, listen to the rippling of the stream as well as sitting and viewing the flora, fauna and fungi.

Thanks are expressed to those who have already sponsored items and to the Edwin & Joyce Hill Trust.
