In praise of the volunteers along the Glen

The volunteers making up the FOGG working party are dedicated to what they do – whether it is being on site in all weathers, following up issues such as the dangerous state of paths and fencing, bringing cuttings from home or taking time out to chat to passers-by about how things are going.

Here’s a wonderful shot of them back in the summer of 2022, shortly after the working party was set up:

First working party has met along the Glen – Friends of Glen Goyle

And last summer/autumn, they were receiving all sorts of accolades for their efforts:

Britain in Bloom visits the Glen – Friends of Glen Goyle

‘In Your Neighbourhood Awards’ – a celebration of success for volunteers – Friends of Glen Goyle

The volunteers are more than willing to put in the hours when a big job needs doing:

Calling all volunteers along the Glen! – Friends of Glen Goyle

They will also put in the hours for events and other goings-on beyond the Thursday morning session along the Glen:

FOGG @ the Arboretum’s celebration of trees – reports! – Friends of Glen Goyle

FOGG @ the Arboretum’s celebration of trees 2023 – reports – Friends of Glen Goyle

And they get support from the councils too:

Mentoring for FOGG volunteers – thanks to the District Council – Friends of Glen Goyle

Tabards for FOGG volunteers – thanks to the Town Council – Friends of Glen Goyle

But their work is never done – whether it is planting for next season or having to badger the council over dumpy bags and trip hazards or doing research on Victorian planting…

So, a big thank you to the FOGG working party! The fabulous transformation of the Glen couldn’t have happened without you!
